SOCIAL MARKETING :: PUBLICATION CONCEPTUALIZATION

Photographer Richard Noble created this image in the height of the AIDS epidemic in the early 1990s, when this publication was first distributed.

In 1993 Voices of Hope Production's President, Lori Ersolmaz (then McDaniel) developed and helped launch an avant-garde European style creative arts magazine.

This unique commercial product promoted the 'personal' work of creative talent and was developed as a bold publication named PIQUE, the Portfolio of Personal Vision. The magazine was a tabloid format of 12” x 17” and was a folder-like which held up to (8) 8-page folded signature inserts. Any page could be easily cut into individual posters for placement on the wall.

PIQUE’s name came from an interest in provoking artists into action and helping them to take risks with their work. Artists promoted images and commentary including messages about safe sex, movement against second slavery, gun control, and voting.
Artists who were generally promoting safe commercial advertising images began to have fun and experiment with new techniques. The publication was distributed nationally and internationally.

"The first thing to keep in mind, is that your objective is not to make a 'TV show' or a 'show' of any kind. You are collecting evidence; you are encouraging witness; you are emboldening ordinary people to 'go public.'"
